Golden Gate Canyon, Mtn. Base Rd., Panorama point
August 7 @ 9:00 am - 1:00 pm
We park at Golden Gate Canyon Rd. just west of the Hwy 93. Alternate parking is at the Mount Galbraith Trail parking lot about 1.3 miles up Golden Gate Canyon Rd. where there is a restroom facility. We will plan to stop at Mt, Galbraith to use the restrooms (if requested) and/or to pick up folks who park there. Then we just head west and do a lot of climbing. We stop about 13 miles in at the State Park Visitor’s Center to get water and group up. Then we continue west on Golden Gate Canyon Rd. about 1.5 miles and hang a right and climb up Mountain Base Rd. It gets ‘a bit steep’ on this 3 mile section. At the top of Mtn. Base we turn right and ride on a nice gravel road (Gap Rd.) a short distance to Panorama Point for a break and some time to enjoy the view. Then west down Gap Rd. to Hwy 119, south on 119 to Golden Gate Canyon Rd. and east back to the cars. This ride has a good amount of climbing and some climbs could be rather hot. Be sure to HYDRATE!
Last minute option. – – Some folks may want to take Crawford Gulch/Drew Hill Rd to the Visitors Center rather than staying on Golden Gate. It Adds 2 miles and about 2.5 miles of it are on a good gravel downhill. The vertical numbers are essentially the same. Second option is to take this route on the way back.
